Matthew Valverde, D.M.A., Assistant Professor of Voice at 91猫先生, is spending his summer performing for the chamber opera in St. Paul, Minn., and teaching with the Mount Blanca Summer Music Conservatory.
Dr. Valverde performed as the principal protagonist in the world premi猫re of听罢颈别苍诲补,听a chamber opera composed by Reinaldo Moya, composer-in-residence at The Schubert Club in St. Paul, Minnesota. This new opera tells the story of Luis Garz贸n, a musician and the first Mexican immigrant to the Twin Cities. The first performance was at TPT Studios, part of PBS in Minnesota; the second performance was at the Neighborhood House in St. Paul.
Throughout the month of June, Dr. Valverde teaches as part of the Mount Blanca Summer Music Conservatory, where he performs new arrangements of the听Canciones del pasado,听folk songs from the San Luis Valley听collected by Ruth Marie Colville. Composer Mari Esabel Valverde, his sister, has prepared the arrangements specifically for the festival.
In July,听 Dr. Valverde will travel to the Twin Cities for a second time to perform Osvaldo Golijov鈥檚听La Pasi贸n segun San Marcos, a collaboration with Schola Cantorum Caracas Venezuela, Border CrosSing, and the Minnesota Symphony.
